DESCRIPTION:The month of June ushers in a host of celebrations\, enriched with meaning: Caribbean-American Heritage\, LGBTQ+ Pride\, Juneteenth\, and National Immigrant Heritage\, reminding us that Blackness is never one-dimensional.  We celebrate the countless ways African descendants continue to shape communities\, cultures\, movements\, and nations across the globe. \nIn particular\, the month invites us to explore how Blackness lives in the stories of Caribbean families who carried ingenuity and traditions across oceans and generations. It lives in the courage of immigrants who left countries or had to flee their homes in pursuit of freedom\, safety\, and the promise of possibility. It lives in the resilience and brilliance of Black LGBTQ+ individuals who continue to create space for authenticity\, joy\, and liberation despite systems designed to deny them.  These stories are not separate. They are connected threads in a larger tapestry of belonging. \nAt Belonging to Blackness\, LLC\, we endeavor to highlight\, explore\, and celebrate the richness\, complexity\, and beauty of African descended experiences. As we close out Season 7\, we reflect on the ways each podcast guest featured spoke to the concept of belonging—not simply as “being accepted by others.”  Each featured guest spoke to belonging’s significance in African descended lives: of claiming place\, of honoring truths\, and of recognizing that identities are expansive. \nIt is in this spirit of courage and self-determination we are excited to bring you our Season 7 finale (Episode 68) on June 16 2026 with Dakarai Larriett\, Democratic primary candidate for U.S. Senate in Alabama and author of Don’t Flush: From False Arrest to a Political Awakening. Our conversation explores what happens when personal adversity becomes a catalyst for purpose. Dakarai shares insights from his journey\, his political awakening\, and the experiences that inspired him to move from being impacted by the system to seeking change within it. \nIt’s a conversation about resilience\, accountability\, leadership\, and the power of refusing to let someone else define your future. In many ways\, it echoes themes we’ve explored throughout the season: finding your voice\, standing in your truth\, and understanding that transformation often begins in the moments we least expect.
